DUBAI: Dubai has launched its “2040 Urban Master Plan” as it envisions to be the world’s best city to live in, the Dubai Media Office has reported.
Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum officially launched the plan on Sunday, which outlined Dubai’s plan to dramatically increase economic and recreational activities in the emirates by 2040, as well as make it 60 percent nature reseves by then.
One of the key outcomes included in the plan was to increase the total resident population to 5.8 million by 2040. The current population stands at 3.38 million, according to government data.

The plan, which was announced on Twitter, also included land enhancement to accommodate more essential services for citizens.
Some 168 square kilometers will be dedicated to industrial and economic activities under the plan.
Designated spaces for educational and health facilities will be increased by 25 percent, while space for hospitality and tourism activities is planned to rise by 134 percent.

The plan also outlined improvements in public services such as mass transportation, as well as in accessing government services through an integrated center.
Other key outcomes of Dubai 2040:
- Development of two additional main urban centers
- 105 percent increase in green and recreational areas
- 400 percent increase in space designated for public beaches
