RIYADH: The Saudi Arabian Military Industries, or SAMI, is aiming to provide defense electronics to all three military branches which include the air force, the army and the navy, said Ziad Al-Musallam, president and chief executive officer of SAMI Advanced Electronics, and executive vice president of SAMI.

While addressing the World Defense Show in Riyadh on March 6, Al-Musallam noted that Saudi Arabia is steadily advancing its capability and readiness in the defense sector.

He said defense electronics is an area that is rapidly evolving in the military sector, and it has a scope of long-term growth in the future.

Al-Musallam revealed that Saudi Arabia is one of the top 10 countries that import arms, and in 2020, the defense spending was equivalent to 8.4 percet of the country’s GDP.

Emphasizing the vitality of collaborating local and global companies in the military sector, Al-Musallam said, “The first step is to align and engage with all ecosystems in Saudi Arabia. The most important part is the government and the authorities. The local industries in Saudi have to align and engage with General Authority for Military Industries, Ministry of Defense, and armed forces.”
