With the field and debate dominated by two far-right candidates and Macron’s mixed legacy, it seemed that all was to play for in this Sunday’s French presidential election. But war in Ukraine has unsettled the field, forcing U-turns on Putin from some candidates and penalizing Macron’s preference for international diplomacy over campaigning.
