World Government Summit 2023 set to begin in Dubai

The World Government Summit (WGS) 2023 is set to begin in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from February 13 to February 15 under the theme of “Shaping Future Governments”.

Reportedly, 20 heads of state, over 250 ministers, government officials, 10,000 businessmen, thinkers, global experts, and more than 80 international organisations have arrived in the UAE to participate in WSG 2023.

The President of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, welcomed participants on Sunday.

Under the leadership of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the WGS 2023 amplifies UAE’s message of openness and constructive interaction with global developing issues. It also highlights the UAE’s influential contribution to finding solutions to various future challenges.

WGS aims to discuss future opportunities and challenges. Reportedly, the participants will discuss various global issues and review current and future challenges in more than 220-panel discussions during the three-day summit. They would also discuss measures to make the world a better place for future generations.

Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, the President of Egypt; Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the President of Turkey; Macky Sall, the President of the Republic of Senegal and Chairperson of the African Union (AU); Prithvirajsing Roopun, the President of Mauritius; Wavel Ramkalawan, the President of Seychelles; Touadera Archange, the President of the Republic of Central African Republic; Joko Widodo, the President of Indonesia; Najla Bouden, the Prime Minister of Tunisia; Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait; Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed, the Prime Minister of Yemen; Masrour Barzani, the Prime Minister of Kurdistan region in Iraq; Ali Asadov, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan; and Mario Abdo Benitez, the President of the Republic of Paraguay, are set to participate in WGS 2023.

Reportedly, the participants would discuss various issues to find solutions related to six main themes: Accelerating Development and Governance, the Future of Societies and Healthcare, Exploring the Frontiers, Governing Economic Resilience and Connectivity, Global City Design and Sustainability, and Prioritising Learning and Work. The leaders would also discuss the impact of climate change.

Other heads of state who will also participate in the summit include Akylbek Japarov, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyz Republic; Ana Brnabic, the Prime Minister of Serbia; Edi Rama, the Prime Minister of Albania; and Irakli Garibashvili, the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum expressed hope that the close cooperation among the world’s governments can help to build a better tomorrow for humanity.

The 2023 edition of WSG has been inaugurated by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Chairman of the WGS Organisation. He will also hold a panel discussion with Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, SpaceX and Tesla.

General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of the Interior, will also hold a key session during the summit titled “The Emirates … A Family of Firm Roots and Future Prospects” to discuss the UAE’s experience in government excellence.
